Call for Members: New ILA Study Group on International Law, Global Challenges, and the Impact of Emerging Powers on Global Governance

Call for Members: New ILA Study Group on International Law, Global Challenges, and the Impact of Emerging Powers on Global Governance

I am pleased to share the official call for expressions of interest for the newly established International Law Association Study Group on International Law, Global Challenges, and the Impact of Emerging Powers on Global Governance.

The Study Group will provide an international and interdisciplinary forum for examining how emerging powers are reshaping international law, global governance, and international institutions in response to the complex challenges of the twenty-first century.

Its work will bring together colleagues working across a broad range of fields, including international law, global governance, international organizations, trade and investment, sustainable development, climate and energy law, technology and artificial intelligence, human rights, security, comparative law, legal pluralism, regional integration, and related areas.

During its initial mandate, the Study Group will develop a collaborative programme of research through webinars, workshops, conference meetings, scholarly exchanges, interim reports, and other academic outputs.

ILA members interested in contributing are warmly invited to submit a brief expression of interest indicating:

1) their principal areas of expertise, 2) institutional affiliation, and 3) a short explanation of how their research or professional experience relates to the Study Group’s mandate.

– To assist with the initial planning of activities, expressions of interest are invited by 31 July 2026, where possible. Submissions received after that date will remain welcome and will continue to be considered as the Study Group develops.

An introductory webinar will be organized in the coming weeks.

I will also be pleased to meet interested colleagues informally during the ILA Biennial Conference in Vienna on Monday, 17 August 2026, at approximately 11:30 a.m. or noon, before the official opening of the Conference.

Expressions of interest by ILA members may be sent to: [email protected]
