It was a pleasure to serve on Ebrahim’s dissertation committee alongside Professor Elena Baylis, Professor Charles T. Kotuby Jr., and Professor Grant B. McIntyre.
It was especially meaningful to continue serving on Ebrahim’s dissertation committee after my transition from the University of Pittsburgh. One of the enduring strengths of academia is that scholarly mentorship and collaboration extend beyond institutional affiliations. Although we may move between universities, our shared commitment to supporting students and advancing knowledge continues within a global academic community.
Ebrahim’s dissertation, “Energy Transition in Saudi Arabia: A Comparative Study of Renewable Energy Legal Frameworks Between Saudi Arabia, the United States, and the European Union,” examines an important and timely topic at the intersection of energy law, comparative law, climate governance, and sustainable development. By drawing on international, U.S., European, and Saudi legal frameworks, the dissertation explores how comparative legal analysis can inform the development of renewable energy regulation in Saudi Arabia.
The defense generated an engaging discussion on comparative legal methodology, regulatory design, energy transition, and the role of legal institutions in supporting sustainable development. It was rewarding to participate in this thoughtful academic exchange and to see the culmination of Ebrahim’s doctoral research.
Congratulations once again to Dr. Alshaiban on this important achievement. I wish him every success in the next stage of his academic and professional career.
